(TV SERIES) Blindspot Season 1 - The Mystery Surrounding A Woman with Body Full of Tattoos

It has been a while since I last posted a review of a TV series. In fact, the last time I posted was back in 2016, so this is my first post of a TV series in 2017. It was not the first series that I completed this year, but it is the first one that really made me want to complete it very fast and write it immediately. I think I saw the trailer of this new series in 2016 and it really intrigued me. So after some weeks of watching other series, I was looking for new series that I can enjoy, and I remembered about this one. Well let's find out what the story is all about. What I will write below was a brief story involving the pilot episode and few other subsequent episodes which I hope would not reveal too much spoiler.

Brief Story Line

The series started with the finding of a large travel bag in the middle of New York Times Square with lots of people walking around. A team of bomb squad had emptied the location and when a soldier was going to check on the possible bomb threat, something was moving inside the bag and it was opening from the inside, where a naked woman whose body was full of tattoos came out of the bag. She claimed that she did not know who she was or how she got there.

Meanwhile a group of FBI elite task force led by Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton - Kill Me Three Times, 300: Rise of An Emperor etc) with 2 of his team members Edgar Reade (Rob Brown - Finding Forrester) and Natasha Zapata (Audrey Esparza) were called to the New York headquarter to lead the investigation of the finding of this unidentified woman, simply called Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander - Thor, Kyle XY TV Series etc). The instruction came directly from the FBI Assistant Director Mayfair (Marianne Jean-Baptiste - Robocop 2014 version, Without A Trace TV series etc).

Jane's tattoos were analyzed by the head of FBI forensic science named Patterson (Ashley Johnson - What Women Want and as Chrissy Seaver, the youngest child in Growing Pains TV series) using a sophisticated software engine & also her genius mind. Due to her difficulty in remembering who she was, Jane was analyzed by FBI Psychiatrist Dr. Borden (Ukweli Roach) who was able to provide some insights and comfort to Jane. After solving of a case which seemed related to the tattoo, FBI realized that the tattoos were concealing information that would lead them to cases which should be solved. In further episodes Jane would be part of a non formal member of Kurt's team.

As the story progresses, there would be additional characters who would have significant impact on the whole mystery, such as Carter the CIA Deputy Director (Michael Gaston), the mysterious man who seemed to know something about Jane's past called Oscar (François Arnaud), Kurt's sister Sarah Weller (Jordana Spiro), David Wagner who was Patterson's boyfriend (Joe Dinicol) and Bill Weller, Kurt's father (Jay O. Sanders - Green Lantern). There were many more recurring roles in few episodes which would be too much if mentioned one by one.

So who was Jane Doe? Who did all the tattooing on her body and what was their intention? Could the FBI team solve all the cases involving them? Find the answers to them all, and more, in this interesting mystery, crime, full action, full twist & surprises TV series.

End of Brief Story Line

This was one of the most intriguing TV series that I ever watched. I was very satisfied and fully entertained watching the whole 23 episodes of the first season. I used to love the long TV series consisting > 20 episodes a season, until I experienced watching a shorter 10, 12, 16 episodes per season TV series which kind of felt not too dragging. But this one is definitely one of those rare TV series that you would not feel too dragging. Each episode is always filled with 1 clue/case to be solved which would involve a very out of the box thinking and full of hand to hand combat, shootings, car chase, bombing and lots of those stuffs. And each episode always revealed some new information for us, whether it's from the tattoo, or the solved case, or the information acquired from the new characters and also from the pieces of memory that Jane started to remember.

In addition to those cool action scenes and very fast pace story, the series was also having a quite generous scenes for all the main characters. Usually in a TV series, it would have lots of screen time for the major 2 characters while the rest of them (despite their names were mentioned in the opening credit scenes), would be having limited scenes and character developments. In this series however, almost every one of them were shown to have their personal life and problem, as well as their struggle between the personal and work matters. So each character would be shown not only as supporting role, but also characters who would have impacts on the development of the story.

As a fan of mystery stories, and also fan of action films, I truly enjoyed watching this series. There was always something new which we would be a surprising scene in almost every episode, with some mind blowing information and scenes, especially in the episode 22 and 23. My advice would be if you are really going to watch this series, do not get your eyes off the scenes and especially do not miss any episode as you would be left with wondering what happened etc.

Each episode also provides us with the anticipation of the following episode, which was why I was a little bit addicted and could not stop watching it and was able to finish all 23 episodes in less than 1 week. And I could not wait for the completion of season 2 (by May 2017) so I could watch the whole season soon. Yes, I am those kind of people who prefer not to watch 1 episode every week but instead watch 1 whole season in few days time, coz I could not stand waiting every week for just 1 episode.

Anyway, if you are interested in seeing a quite new mystery drama action series (that just premiered in 2015) and do not mind watching a series with > 20 episodes per season, then I would really recommend to watch this one. You should be entertained with the solving of tattoo's clue/case in each episode and also the grand mystery of the tattoo and Jane's history/background. It is probably a little bit like treasure hunt film, but a very big and long kind of treasure hunt.

Happy watching!
