Captain America: Civil War - Biggest Fight Among Marvel Super Heroes

This was one of my most anticipated movies of this year but when it premiered on 27 April 2016, I was very busy with work and had no chance to watch it. Lucky for me that my wife got a free movie voucher which she passed to me as she was unable to use while she is in Bali for her staycation trip. So on the weekend, I went to the theater and fortunately there was still an empty seat in the middle of the last row, which of course I immediately took it.

Now starting from this post onwards, I am going to do something a little bit different on my reviews. I will separate the brief story line in few paragraphs under a section called "Brief Story Line" (not very creative, I know but it does clarify what it's all about). I hope differentiating these few paragraphs would enable those who do not want to know what the movie's plots & stories can just go direct to the moments that I experienced (you can call it the conclusion or the recommendation or anything). So, here goes:

Brief Story Line

Movie starts with the scene of Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) in 1991 brainwashed by HYDRA officer. Move on to the present day, Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthonie Mackie) together with their latest group member Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) were on a mission in Lagos, Nigeria to capture Rumlow who wanted to steal a biochemical weapon.

In the later few scenes, Secretary of State, Ross (William Hurt) had a meeting with the Avengers team who were in Nigeria before, added with Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), James Rhodes/War Machine (Don Cheadle) and JARVIS (Paul Bettany). Ross believed that the Avengers need to be put in check due to the various events in Washington DC, Sokovia and latest in Nigeria. The idea was for United Nations to put leash on the Avengers where they can only operate if they got their approval. This "control" was called Sokovia Accord. Tony agreed that they should follow the accord, however Steve who believed that the Avengers should be given the trust to do the right thing, disagree to it.

During the signing ceremony of the accord, Romanoff was introduced to T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) the son of the Wakanda king in Africa. Things got out of hand when Bucky Barnes was highlighted as the person behind incident in Lagos which resulted to a huge fight between the soldiers and Winter Solider with Steve caught in the middle. After various incidents, Tony and Steve would be completely divisive. Each believed what they thought was correct and tried to recruit more Avengers member to be on their side.

So who will win the fight between these 2 teams? Are they ever going to resolve their differences? Is the Avengers going to be disbanded? And what was the role of Zemo (Daniel Brühl) in this war? Watch out all the film until completion.

End of Brief Story Line

Well I am sure I was not the only one who enjoyed this movie. This was fun and purely enjoyable. The pace of the film was quite fast. There was always an action scene between every few conversational scenes and mostly were good including the spectacular fight between Steve's "team" and Tony's "team". It was also exciting to see the new Marvel characters introduced in here, plus the showing of several characters from Marvel universe we have seen before.

We were also quite entertained by some light humor here and there, especially with Tony. Only thing that I feel quite weird was that this was supposed to be 3rd part of Captain America, but it certainly felt like an Avengers movie, coz there were so many of their characters, especially Iron Man's portion was a lot (I guess it's because he would bring more audience to the theaters). However, if it's intended to be an Avenger movie, I still believe this best one would be their first (Joss Whedon totally nailed that one).

Anyway, for a superhero movie, this one would definitely make you excited and satisfied. It was a worthy 2.5 hour in theater. And because of more action scenes, I am very sure those who felt a little bit "bored" with the earlier DC movie where their biggest characters had their own battle, would say this one is better. There were also quite a number of sub-plots and shocking twists which were surprising considering usually Marvel movies were easy to guess.

This is definitely recommended movie to see in theater. Large one with good sound system would be great addition to fulfill your entertainment need. Pretty sure this one will remain in the theaters for long time, so even if you do not get the chance to see this weekend, there will be plenty of time to watch it later, especially since it is playing in all major theaters in Indonesia.

And please do not leave the theaters so fast, as there are 2 post credit scenes. Yes, not one, but two!

Happy watching!
